PGWP update
IRCC has (finally!) announced details for PGWP holders in Canada who have Work Permits that may expire. The first announcement was made quite a while ago by Minister Fraser’s office and we have been waiting for details and confirmation. The government finally published details of the new program. This is very good news for international students who have PGWPs and they are on track for permanent resident status. Applications made be made starting 2 AUG 2022 online for PGWPs.
This program benefits workers, students, Canadian business and the entire country. We are in the midst of a labour shortage and employers are anxious their workers may not be able to work without a valid Work Permit. This program helps workers in different categories maintain their worker status or obtain new documents to extend their status.
In particular, this program will affect foreign nationals in Canada under these circumstances:
My post-graduation work permit expires from October 2, 2022, to December 31, 2022, my address is up to date, and my passport is valid through April 2024.
My post-graduation work permit expires from October 2, 2022, to December 31, 2022, but I need to update my address and/or passport validity.
My post-graduation work permit expires from October 2, 2022, to December 31, 2022, but I won’t be able to update my address or passport validity.
My post-graduation work permit expires from October 2, 2022, to December 31, 2022, but IRCC didn’t contact me.
My post-graduation work permit expired or will expire from September 20, 2021, to October 1, 2022.
Details are on the IRCC website. Further, the application process is online through the IRCC Portal. This program is scheduled to end on 31 DEC 2022.
