Success: Spousal Sponsorship (Outland)
We love reunited couples. Many families are separated due to complex cross-border applications involving applicants residing outside Canada.
We are pleased to share a recent success story involving a couple residing outside Canada who successfully obtained permanent residence through the Family Class (Outland Spousal Sponsorship).
In this matter, both the sponsor and applicant were living outside Canada so they were able to be together during the application process. Now that the SS has been approved, the couple plans to relocate to Canada and the applicant will be conferred with permanent resident status upon entry. They required a clear strategy to present their eligibility, relationship history, and future plans for settlement in Canada.
We assisted the couple with preparing and submitting a comprehensive spousal sponsorship application tailored to their circumstances and future plans in Canada. Our team provided strategic guidance throughout the outland sponsorship process, helping the couple navigate the requirements and move forward with confidence.
Key Timeline
- August 2025 – Couple retained CIL and application preparation began
- October 2025 – Outland spousal sponsorship application submitted to IRCC
- December 2025 – Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) received
- January 2026 – Immigration medical examination and biometrics completed
- July 2026 – Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) issued, less than one year after application submission.
Outcome
After successfully completing the outland spousal sponsorship process, the applicant received the CoPR, allowing the couple to move forward with their plans to relocate to Canada.
From the submission of the application in October 2025 to the receipt of the CoPR in July 2026, the application was successfully finalized in less than one year. This reflects the importance of careful preparation, complete documentation, and effective management of the application process.
This approval provides the couple with the ability to begin their next chapter in Canada, including establishing their home, pursuing professional goals, and contributing to their future community.
Supporting Families Through the Immigration Process
This case highlights that even when both spouses are residing outside Canada, careful planning and strategic preparation can help couples navigate the outland sponsorship process effectively.
While many spousal sponsorship applications may appear straightforward, each case requires attention to important details, including relationship evidence, documentation requirements, eligibility criteria, and future plans in Canada.
At CIL, we work closely with couples to develop practical immigration strategies and prepare applications that accurately reflect their circumstances and goals. Whether you are sponsoring a spouse from within Canada or applying through the outland sponsorship process, our team is committed to providing clear guidance and results-focused representation throughout the process.
