NEWS: High refusal rates for TRV for FIFA
The team at CIL has been actively watching the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches. We have team members from many countries at the World Cup. There has been some friendly rivalry within the office. We love to help our clients come to Canada to cheer on their teams.
Canada is a host country for this event and the venues have been packed with fans. Unfornately, IRCC has been refusing many TRV applications for people who want to come and see their teams play in person.
Overall, citizens of countries that require eTAs to enter Canada had an approval rate of 96 per cent, compared to just 32 per cent for those that need a visa.
These are extremely low figures. A 32% approval rate means that more than 2/3 of TRV applications were refused by IRCC Officers.
The IRCC website regularly advises applicants to follow the guides and apply without professional help. That is your right. We would encourage applicants, in contrast, to hire an immigration lawyer to help you with your application. Football fans are already spending $$$ to see their teams play at the World Cup. In our view, it makes sense to hire a professional to make sure you have the best chance to get to the game.
